Young Boilermaker with Osteosarcoma Inspires his Classmates

Osteosarcoma is a rare form of bone cancer that most commonly affects children.  How rare?  ~5 cases per million.  Treatment is extensive and involves surgical resection and over 9 months of chemotherapy.   Survival for patients with localized disease (no spread) is ~60-70%.  For those who have recurrent disease or who are diagnosed with a more widespread disease have a much more dismal prognosis.

Tyler’s story has captured a nation.  His story on ESPN gameday illustrates his battle and his Pride as a Boilermaker.  A young man in the battle of his life inspires his classmates to greatness and at the same time the  team uplifts Tyler.  The story is one of kindness, compassion, and illustrates the power of community.  Together we can do more than we can do on our own.
