Osteosarcoma is a rare form of bone cancer that most commonly affects children. How rare? ~5 cases per million. Treatment is extensive and involves surgical resection and over 9 months of chemotherapy. Survival for patients with localized disease (no spread) is ~60-70%. For those who have recurrent disease or who are diagnosed with a more widespread disease have a much more dismal prognosis.
