The inaugural Ask the Expert event on Sarcoma took place last evening at the American Cancer Society Hope Club at One Penny Lane in Latham . A room full of patients and families affected by sarcoma gathered at Hope Club to share experiences, network, and hear what is new in targeted therapies in soft tissue sarcoma. A virtual presentation was given by, Aimee Crago, a Surgeon/Scientist who presented her work on desmoid tumors and soft tissue sarcomas. For many it was their first exposure to the ACS and the Hope Club. A sarcoma support group could easily be started at Hope Club and could serve the needs of many local patients and families. Any of the event’s attendees or anyone interested in starting such a group can reach out to Joni Richter from the American Cancer Society at joni.richter@cancer.org to take the next step.
Darcy Czajka, the Senior Director of Community Engagement for the ACS was instrumental at arranging this event and we look forward to similar gatherings in the future. Possibly next July for Sarcoma Awareness Month we can gather again to share our stories and gather knowledge.
A big thanks to Joni and Darcy for all their efforts in arranging this event and for supporting our local sarcoma community.
