Kyle was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his leg, just below his knee, in 2020. His treatment was long and challenging. Almost a year of chemotherapy, most of which is inpatient in a hospital (during the Covid-19 Pandemic) and several limb sparing surgeries. Kyle has a wonderful support team including his family, classmates, and greater community. He is a diehard NY Jets Football fan and since his diagnosis has had some amazing outreach from the Jets players and organization.
The pinnacle of this came with Kyle’s wish through Make-A-Wish. As a huge football fan he typically watches the NFL draft each year and his wish was to read the NY Jets 1st rough draft pick at the 2023 NFL draft. Kyle is a very humble somewhat shy, soft spoken teenager. So when I watched him live during the NFL draft I was so proud of his energy, enthusiasm and passion. His performance went viral and Kyle saw how much of an impact and inspiration he could be for other kids battling cancer.
It wasn’t long after his performance that we reached out to Kyle and his family to ask if he would serve as our honoree for our 10th Anniverary Sarcoma Strong 5k Run/Walk in the Capital District of New York. Kyle graciously accepted this honor and not long after his own diagnosis and treamtent, he is giving back to the greater sarcoma community.
Kyle was recently on national Fox News sharing his experience with first round NY Jets rookie Will McDonald who he announced live during the NFL draft.
Kyle has a team registered for the in-person Saratoga Spa State Park event on Sunday, August 13th and will be there to inspire the crowd and offer hope to other warriors. There is still time to register, donate or volunteer with our organization.
